Rules and Regulations 

The following Rules and Regulations are for the protection and benefit of all members.  These rules have been established to assure congenial, safe and sanitary operation of the pool facilities.  Parents are requested to caution their children to observe all rules and obey instructions of the Pool Manager, and other employees.  Any failure to comply with these rules shall be considered sufficient cause for immediate suspension of pool privileges for the offending member for a period of 1 to 7 days. Such a  violation and any recurrence of the same offense shall be considered sufficient cause for cancellation of membership.  Any suspension or cancellation shall be at the discretion of the Pool Manager and/or the Board of Governors.


1.  2015 Pool hours:

     A. Pool hours are posted on the website and on the bulletin boards at the pool. 

B.  Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, the pool may be reserved for group or individual swimming instruction and for swim team practice. 

C.  Special times called “Float Days” have been defined as every Tuesday and Thursday between the hours of 12:00 noon to 2:00pm, with the last ½ hour (1:30pm-2:00pm) for adults only. These “Float Days” may be limited, added to, or canceled at the discretion of the Pool Manager.

D.  Special nights for adult or teenage events shall be considered by the Board of Governors upon request.

E.   The pool may be closed at any time for maintenance operations, health conditions, weather, or any other reason deemed sufficient by the Pool Manager and/or the Board of Governors.

2.  Member Obligations:

A.  Each member must present a valid membership card to the person on duty when entering the pool and retrieve it when leaving after each visit.

B.  If a membership card is lost, the Pool Manager shall be notified and the card shall be replaced for a fee of $10.00 per card.

C.  The transfer of membership cards for use by non-members is absolutely prohibited, and any violation shall result in immediate suspension of pool privileges.

D.  The cost of any property damage caused by any member or his guest(s) shall be immediately reimbursed to WGSC, Inc. by the responsible member, or in the case of children, by their parent or guardian.

3.  Rules of Conduct: 

A.  All activities on the pool grounds shall be conducted so as not to constitute a public nuisance.

B.  Members shall drive slowly and carefully upon entering and exiting the driveway of the pool club, and in the parking area. Drivers shall obey a 5 MPH speed limit in the lot and obey the posted STOP sign. Parking is allowed only in designated areas.

C.  Cars parked in the spaces designated for the handicapped must visibly display a legal handicap sign.

D.  Members are permitted to park in the parking lot ONLY during the pool season (Memorial Day thru Labor Day), and strictly during operating hours.

E.   All bicycle, scooter, and skateboard riders shall ride carefully and observe all traffic rules of the road relative to bicycle safety. Upon entering the pool parking area, all riders shall walk bikes to the bike rack area. All bicycles, scooters, and skateboards must remain in the bike rack area until the riders leave the pool. Willow Grove Swim Club is not responsible for loss or damage to bicycles, scooter, and skateboards.

F.   Food and refreshments are to be consumed in the picnic area and the kiddie grove only.

G.  No glass containers are permitted on the pool grounds.

H.    Alcohol and other intoxicants may not be brought onto the pool grounds except during times designated by the Board of Governors.

I.    The “Lap Lane” is for swimming laps and the administration of the Basic Swimmers Test ONLY.

J.   Loud or abusive language shall not be permitted.

K.  Loud or annoying playing of radios, TV sets or tape recorders shall not be permitted.

L.   No cameras of any type are permitted in the locker rooms.

4.  Guests:

A.  All guests must be registered and accompanied by a member at all times. The member must be at least 12 years of age.  An adult or babysitter must accompany guests younger than 12 years of age.

B.  Members are directly responsible for their guests at all times in their observance of all pool rules and regulations.

C.  Each membership shall be afforded 50 individual guest privileges per swim season.  A guest privilege shall afford an individual one day's admission to WGSC, Inc.

D.  All members must sign-in their guest(s) in the Guest Book located at the front entrance to the pool.

E.   Additional guest privileges shall be considered for special Club sponsored activities.  Written notice and details of such activities, including guest fees, shall be posted in advance by the Board of Governors.

5.  Guest Rates:

A.  A flat rate of $5.00 for each guest will be charged at the time of the guest visit and paid either by pre-paid guest card or cash.  Toddlers are considered guests, however infants (age 12 months and younger) are not.

B.  Special rates are $75.00 per family for bona fide house guest(s) for one week or portion thereof without regard to limitations per Section 4.C.  Such requests must be submitted in writing ahead of time to the Pool Manager for approval.

6.  Parties:

A.  Pool Manager’s approval is required for all parties.

B.  All parties have to be scheduled 72 hours in advanced with the Pool Manager.

C.  The host member must complete and submit a party guest form to the Pool Manager upon entry into the pool prior to the start of the party.

D.  When applicable, parties must end ½ hour prior to the closing of the pool.

E.   No party will take place if the pool facilities have been closed by the Pool Manager due to unsafe conditions.

F.   A $20.00 surcharge will be charged for parties of 10 or more guests.

G.  The number of guests attending the party will NOT be deducted from your total guest privileges.  For example, if you have 10 guests attending a party and you have not used any of your 50 guest privileges you will still have 50 guest privileges remaining.

7.  Health and Safety:

     A.  Primary responsibility for safety is that of every member.

     B.  All bathers must shower before entering the pool.

     C.  At the discretion of the Pool Manager, use of the swimming pool and/or its facilities may be refused to anyone with severe colds, coughs, inflamed eyes, obvious infections, wearing bandages, or casts, or for similar reasons.

     D.  No glass containers are permitted on the pool grounds.

     E.  No shoes are allowed on pool deck areas so marked.

     F.  No smoking is allowed within 10 feet of pool edge.

G.  Spitting, blowing of nose, or urinating in or near pool property is prohibited.

H.  No pets are allowed on the Club property.

I.   No flips, back dives, or jumping in backwards are permitted off the side of the pool.

J   No running, pushing, wrestling, ball playing or causing undue disturbance within the pool enclosure, except ball playing behind the Kiddy Pool with prior permission of the Pool Manager is prohibited.

K.  All air-inflated pool accessories, masks, goggles, flippers, and “Pool Toys” shall not be allowed in the Main Pool except with the approval of the Pool Manager.

L.  Appropriate swimwear must be worn at all times in the pool. No shirts, cutoffs, hats, aqua shoes, flip-flops or non swimming attire is allowed.

M.  In case of an emergency or training exercise and upon instructions from the guard staff, please exit the pool immediately and stay clear of the location of the event.  You will be instructed when you may re-enter the pool.

N.  NO running, pushing, wrestling, ball playing or causing undue disturbance is permitted in or around the pool area and on the pool deck.

O.  No gum chewing in the pool area.

P.   No air-inflated tubes, bubbles, jackets, masks, toys, swimming fins or other paraphernalia shall be allowed in either pool except at the discretion of the Pool Manager.

Q.  All members are required to shower and remove all sand upon leaving the sand box and prior to entering either pool.

8.  Deep Water (“The Hopper”) and Diving Boards

A.  Permission from the lifeguard is needed to open and close the “Hopper”(Deep Water). The “Hopper” is OPEN when the safety cones are in place on the diving boards and swimming is permitted.

B.  The “Hopper” is CLOSED when the safety cones are removed from the diving boards and diving off the boards is permitted.

C.  When an individual is using the diving board, only one bounce is permitted before diving.  There shall be no bouncing to “test” the board.  No backflips, inward dives, or any jumping off backward will be allowed off the boards.

     D.  After diving, swimmers must exit by means of the ladder on the poolside of the diving board that they used. Diving is only permitted when the previous diver reaches the ladder. 

E.   Only the pool staff while on duty may open and close the water valve located under the diving boards. 

9.    Age Rules for Main Pool and Grounds Use:

A.  All ages for pool use are determined as of the coming Labor Day.  For example, a child who will be 8 years of age anytime before Labor Day is considered to be 8 years of age for the entire swim season.

B.  Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied to, on and from the pool property by an adult or an authorized babysitter at all times.

C.  Children 10 and 11 years of age, who have passed the Basic Swimmers Test, (Section 10) may come to the pool unattended.

D.  Parents are reminded that children, whether accompanied or unaccompanied, are their responsibilities.

     E.  Children younger than 12 years of age must be retested each year per the Basic Swimmers Test (Section 10).

     F.  Children younger than 12 years of age shall not be allowed (even if accompanied by an adult) in the deep end, or in the 4 feet area of the pool until they have passed the Basic Swimmers Test.

    G.  Manager may request a deep water test from swimmers 12 years or older if  swimmer appears to be a weak swimmer.

    H.  An "Adult Only" swim for members and their guests over 18 years of age may be allowed at the discretion of the Pool Manager.

    I.    Children must be older than 12 years of age to use the "Sun Deck".

    J.   Adult age is considered to be 18 years of age.

10. Basic Swimmers Test:

     A.  The Pool Manager or designee will give the Basic Swimmers Test at times convenient to the operation of the pool.

     B.  Requirements for the Basic Swimmers Test are as follows:

1.   Swimming style shall consist of a good freestyle stroke with a strong kick. It must be approved by the tester.

2.   Candidate must swim two lengths of the pool from the deep end to the shallow and back to the deep end without stopping or resting, and then tread water for 2-5 minutes with his/her head above the water.  The minutes will depend on the strength of the individuals’ stroke.

3.   Final approval remains at the discretion of the Pool Manager.

    C.  Passing the Basic Swimmers Test shall allow the child access to all areas of the pool.  However, the swimmer may be limited to certain areas of the pool by the tester if, in the tester's opinion, the swimmer is too weak for all areas.

    D.  Failing the Basic Swimmers Test limits the swimmer to the shallow area of the pool.

    E.   Swimmers passing the Basic Swimmers Test shall have their membership cards initialed by the tester.  The swimmer shall be given a swimmer's band which must be worn at all times while on the pool grounds for the season. The swimmer's band is available from the Pool Manager. The cost of a Replacement Band is $3.00.

    F.   If you fail the swimmers test, you will not be able to re-test for 48 hours.

11. Kiddy Pool Use:

    A.  The Parent is entirely responsible for the safety and behavior of children in the Kiddy Pool.

    B.  No children 6 years of age and over are permitted in the Kiddy Pool.

    C.  No metal or rigid plastic toys shall be allowed in the Kiddy Pool.

    D.  Parents of children using the Kiddy Pool or the Main Pool shall have their children rinse thoroughly using the outside shower after playing in the sandbox 

    E.   Children wearing diapers, or swim diapers must also wear protective plastic pants over the diaper while in the Kiddy Pool and/or Main Pool at all times.  

12. General:

    A.  All formal complaints concerning the Club operations must be submitted in writing, signed and mailed to the Board of Governors, P.O. Box 11 Fanwood, NJ 07023.

    B.  These Rules and Regulations may be revised, waived and additional rules established at any time by the Board of Governors. 

    C.  Any Club member, or member of their family, on Club property during hours when the pool is closed, except for a valid reason, shall have his membership canceled.  Prosecution for such offense shall be at the discretion of the Board of Governors.

    D.  Any suspension of pool privileges, as authorized herein or in the by-laws of WGSC, Inc. may be appealed by the member to the Board of Governors, who may cancel or continue the suspension at the Board's discretion.
